The new demands of light diesel engines led Cummins to shift its attention to the production of small turbochargers. The latest series of small turbochargers arrived in China two months after the start of the world. In only two months, from September 2010, Cummins debuted the world's newest series of superchargers at the Hanover Motor Show to Alison Snell, Business Development Director, Cummins Turbo Technology Co., Ltd. and Wuxi at the 2010 International Combustion Engine Show in Beijing. Chen Hua, general manager of Cummins Turbo Technology Co., Ltd., jointly announced the introduction of this new technology into China.
Prior to this, Cummins had just introduced the Euro VI technology into its domestic joint venture company, and it was also the world's only light engine production base - Foton Cummins. Cummins seems to be trying to introduce more of the world's latest technologies into China, especially in the light diesel engine sector. According to Cao Side, president of Cummins China, the core of Cummins's light engine business will be in China.
The protagonist of the introduction of a new series of small turbochargers - Wuxi Cummins Turbo Technology Co., Ltd. began production of diesel turbochargers in 1996. By October 27, 2010, its production volume has exceeded 500, and has become One of the major suppliers of medium and heavy diesel engine manufacturers in China. Now, the new demands of light-duty diesel engines have led them to shift their attention to the production of small turbochargers.
From a global perspective, customers are increasingly demanding diesel engines, emission regulations are increasingly stringent, and the pressure to reduce fuel consumption is also increasing. This is also the original intention of Cummins to develop a new series of supercharger that can meet the above requirements and is suitable for 2 to 5 liters of light diesel engines with strong power and excellent reliability. China's market demand is also in line with international trends, even facing greater pressure in the international commitment to energy conservation and emission reduction.
In 2008, China National Light Commercial Vehicles fully implemented the National III emission standards. In the next few years, this standard will soon be upgraded to the National IV phase. The excellent turbocharging technology can make the fuel more fully burned in the engine, not only improving the performance of the engine, but also reducing the emission of nitrogen oxides. This is the solution to the upgrade of the light diesel engine technology in the future. What is even more troubling is that the scale of China's light commercial vehicle market and the number of manufacturing companies are still expanding.
China has become the world's largest light commercial vehicle market. Millions of light commercial vehicles are sold in this market each year, and light commercial vehicles have maintained an average annual growth of more than 10% in the past five years. With the openness of the rural market, its prospects are more optimistic. It is because of this market potential that China's major auto companies are struggling to expand their business to light commercial vehicles.
For light trucks, FAW Group and General Motors entered a joint venture to re-enter the market. CNHTC acquired Chengdu Trump to enter the market. Dongfeng and Shandong Kaima set up a new joint venture to expand production scale, and Shanxi Grand Canal Heavy Trucks also squeezed into the market for delivery.
The light passengers are also unwilling to be lonely. JAC light commercial vehicles were listed at the end of 2010. Yutong buses have also started to extend their business. Dongfeng shares and SAIC have also prepared and constructed light passenger vehicle projects.
In the next few years, the number of domestic light commercial vehicle manufacturers will not only increase substantially, but will even lead to more fierce market competition. In this competition, the competition of the engine becomes even more crucial.
Looking optimistic about the development prospects of China's future light engine business, Cummins will introduce more and more of the world's latest technologies to China and build a light-weight engine production base in China.
