How to choose lithium battery and colloid battery in solar street light

Today, more than 90% of solar batteries are still dominated by colloidal batteries. Why? The main reason is cost.   However, there is a commonly used street lamp called integrated street lamp, which uses lithium iron phosphate battery.


But there are still problems:
Due to the small capacity of the battery, the LED street lights can only be equipped with low power, but the power is small, so the lumens are small, and the lighting effect of such street lights will be relatively poor, so it is generally installed in the internal circuit board Acoustic resistors or thermistors only work at 30% power in normal times, and 80% or 100% power when they sense someone.
Therefore, it is recommended to configure a larger battery, which can solve the problem of battery capacity, but the cost has increased too much. From an economic point of view, the colloid battery is more economical.


Currently, the first choice for solar street lamps in the world is generally split street lamps. The colloidal battery pack used is either externally attached to the pole or buried underground next to the pole and placed in a buried box. The cost is generally less than the same lithium battery pack Half of it.


Regarding the difference between the two, there are mainly the following points:


1. Environmental protection, the lithium battery is not polluted (not absolute), and the colloid battery is polluted by heavy metal lead 


2. Safety. The safety of power lithium batteries (lithium manganate, lithium iron phosphate) differs depending on the material. The technology of colloidal batteries is quite mature and the safety is higher than that of lithium batteries. 


3. The specific energy, the mass ratio and the volume ratio capacity of the lithium battery are about 40% higher than that of the gel battery. 


4. In terms of price, the price of lithium batteries of the same capacity is more than double that of gel batteries 


5. Service life, the current general lithium iron phosphate is charged 1500 times, there is no memory effect, about 85% of the storage capacity after 1500 times, and the gel battery is about 500 times, and the memory effect is obvious 


6. Self-discharge rate, monthly self-discharge of lithium battery <3%, colloidal battery 15 ~ 30%, the difference is obvious 




7. Discharge characteristics. Simply put batteries of the same capacity. In the case of large current discharge, lithium batteries discharge about 30% more electricity than gel batteries. 


8. Voltage platform, lithium battery voltage platform are all> 3V, colloid battery is 2V

It is worth mentioning here that the second point is that the colloidal battery is safe and stable, and the safety of lithium batteries is still a problem due to the extremely active lithium metal itself.


Therefore, although lithium batteries have advantages that can be talked about in terms of performance and various aspects, but since the number of choices is generally not small, from an economic point of view, almost all users and integrators will choose gel batteries.
